Hale GC hosted the 2nd GB Trophy on Friday 24th July. The
field assembled for a 1.30pm start only to find at that precise time the
heavens opened! It lashed down for about 10-15 minutes by which time the nearby
9th green was flooded but then it stopped!
Undaunted the players set off and the course played
beautifully with the drying weather and by the time we reached the 9th the
green had become clear.
Charlie Jesudason was the clear leader halfway with 21
points but his partner/s allegedly gave him poor club selection and
his challenge faded! Meanwhile the 4-ball of Martyn Grimley, George
Buchan, Lee Ible & Roger Laitt were having a real tussle and at half-way
were all within a point of each other! But they too faded on the back nine,
maybe the hilly nature of the course?
All this allowed your reporter (who just happened to be
playing with Jesudason!) to take the lead and finish with a solid 37
points!

told everybody during dinner afterwards how much he thought events like this
helped to bond members of the Hockey Club with retired members and looked
forward to the event gathering momentum in coming years and thanked Bill for
his organisational skills and dedication to duty!
'Mac' the Hale steward, (renowned in these parts) provided a
fabulous meal for both players and non-players. A splendid day was enjoyed by
all and we now look forward to 'The Boocock Classic' in September.
