Friday 18th September 2009.   Golf Day at Bolton GolfClub

Our 10th annual golf day was a great success, thanks in part to a most beautiful cloudless day, and thanks to Brian Boocock's excellent management. Everything about the day was first class, the course was immaculate and the members and staff most hospitable.   The golf was pretty impressive too and very well supported by Bolton member's themselves, entering four teams! Obviously intent on winning the trophy!
In fact Geoffrey Proffitt's team came third with 77 points beaten only by a better back nine by John Bell's team (of three!) which was very good. Brian Boocock's team might have been 3rd but for the SFC penalty of one shot! The winner, however, way out in front was the Brooklands player's team of Brad King, Lee Ible, Russell Anderson and Mike Renison with a score of 81!
There were some particularly good individual scores on the day as well but being a team day we'll save those for another time! Just to say they were all below 80!!   The longest drive went to Mike Renison who reduced the 421 yard 12th hole to no more than a drive and a lob-wedge!! (might even have been a putt!!). Nearest the pin was won by Charles Jesudason's team member Richard Taylor-Carr but I have to tell you he missed the putt!! The only two of the day going to Ken Wilcock at the 14th, new hips not holding him back!
All in all a very enjoyable day which was a very satisfying way to complete our 10 year association with Bolton GC who thro' Brian have been the most marvellous hosts.

NB. For those wondering what the SFC penalty refers to, it was insisted upon by one of our late member's who felt that Bolton member's had an advantage playing on their own course! Always being the sporting gentleman that he is, Brian remembered SFC's wish!
