Reading edge Seven Goal thriller

Brooklands travelled to Sonning lane to face Reading for the second Premier League match of the season, this fixture in the recent times has been a high scoring affair and todays renewal did not disappoint.

Reading started the game on the front foot and maintained a lot of possession in the Brooklands half with the Manchester men defending stoutly and playing some encouraging hockey on the counter attack. The dead lock was broken by a swift Reading attack and an excellent finish by Peter Scott, who’s reverse stick shot found the far corner of Robbie Turners goal.

Brooklands responded 13 minutes later and after some short corner pressure, David Flanagans enterprising finish went through the legs of Chris Wyver in the Reading goal, scores level at half time.

Reading once again started the half seeing the most of the ball and building pressure on Brooklands scoring 2 open play goals in a 10 minute. David Flanagan scored his second of the day with 12 minutes to go, a skilful effort rounding a defender on the base line and firing past the advancing Reading GK. Unfortunately for the away side Reading responded almost immediately when Jatinder Bachu was the first to the ball in the circle and finished past Robbie Turner to make the score 4-1. Brooklands responded by withdrawing the goal keeper Turner and playing 11 outfield players with captain Peter Flanagan operating as kicking back. The away side built pressure in the final 7 minutes resulting in a penalty stroke being award for a Reading foot on the line which David Flanagan duly dispatched to complete his hat-trick.

Brooklands pushed for a 4th goal and in the final minutes of the game using their extra outfield player well and maintaining possession in in the Reading half, with Dan Vincent and Peter Flanagan playing some dangerous passes into the Reading D, however it was not to be and the game finished 4-3 to the home side.

Next weekend sees Brooklands travel away to Hollybush lane to face Sevenoaks.
