Great start to the season

So today see's the start of the 2016/17 hockey season. Lucy kicked it of with an inspirational text to the team. We took on Triton away in Alsagaer.

Due to a rejigging of the leagues,Triton came down from the division above at the end of last season. We therefore new this would be a tough match, and that we’d have to work together to achieve the result we wanted.

We had new players from the summers Back To Hockey sessions, juniors that had moved up to the ladies section and old players returning. All came together for the first time. Unfortunately we had no keeper, but that was okay as Hayley stepped up to be the kicking back.

We had a solid defence with Lucy C, Catherine L, Sophie A, and Heather L. A strong midfield with Holly W, Ruby, Issy C, Jess L, and Catlin and a powerful attack with Kathryn F, Becky L, Holly J and Lucy LH.

We started powerful from the off, worked as a unit, communicated well which made us take the lead by a great strike and goal from Holly J scoring from an amazing 'Matrix style' angle. We pressured them well and Becky L got our next goal after a great pass from Jess L. It wasn’t long before we got our third goal by Holly J again. 3-0 at half time and our kicking back Hayley had only took one touch…we’ll take that at half time.

After our sugar intake at half time (haribo provided by Ruth) we were hungry for more goals. Catherine L did some great individual skill in the center of defence and Sophie worked her socks of getting back and defending. Lucy C kept strong on the left and didn’t let the ball through. Ruby Jess and Issy did some great runs in the midfield laying the ball forward to our attack. We were soon rewarded with our forth goal after a strike from Catlin, which Sophie helped in. Lucy LH and Becky L were constantly on the move trying to open up there defence and confuse the oppositions defence. The next 15 minutes we had 6 short corners, there goal keeper made some amazing saves keeping our opposition in the game. But we broke through from a great strike from Holly J from a short corner for her hatrick. To finish the game Sophie scored her second after some great acrobatics falling over the goalkeeper and ending up on the floor but somehow managed to keep her composure and score. The full time whistle went, we all celebrated, what a great start to our season.

Sophie got MOM, Becky L got oppositions MOM and Ruth got DOD.

Everyone stepped up to the mark and played really hard. I bet they didn’t know what had hit them.
