Brooklands Ladies 4th team denied victory on a wintery afternoon at the Armitage Centre.

This week Brooklands Ladies 4th team were denied a win today in the team’s second league fixture since the Christmas break against Runcorn 2s. With the lion’s share of possession Brooklands were unlucky to finish sharing the points but this was nevertheless a not a bad result.

Runcorn took pushback with a strong start but were soon broken down by Becky and Rosie holding strong on the left. Brooklands took possession and started the first half with waves of attacking possession and took an early lead with a solid strike and amazing goal from Annabel. With a spring in their step Brooklands looked like they were controlling the game but were denied time after time by some strong defending from Runcorn. Alicia made some great saves which were promptly cleared away by Helen through the middle to Catherine and Elana .

Following countless chances from Ruby, Holly, Lucy L-H and Helen, Runcorn broke into the Brooklands half and equalised with a strike from Jayne Bond.

After the break stand out performances from both sets of defenders prevented either team from snatching all the points in what was, as a spectator, a thrilling second half. Some excellent link play from Brooklands young guns Isobel , Ruby, Elana and Annabel were blocked time after time by some expert defending. A switch about in Brooklands defence when Rosie had to leave early meant Lucy C and Kelly faught hard to keep the Runcorn forwards out. Bianca made fast work of sweeping up the stay balls and channeling them towards the oppositions D.

The point was almost snatched away from Brooklands in the last minute after multiple shots were blocked by Alicia (GK).

Overall, this was a hard-earned point and I’m sure both teams will feel they deserved to take all of the points.
