With a friendly played just two days before, it was to be a test of legs as much as quality to take all six points. Saturday saw a strong squad come up against an ‘unorthodox’ Gateshead side. Twelve men of varying shapes and size trudged down from the North East to St Georges. Brooklands took an immediate hold of the game winning an early corner. Converted by Darius and Wolfy gave him a belated Christmas present of first short corner.
With a blustering arctic tornado taking place across the pitch, Gateshead took their chance to take advantage of the conditions and some vintage defending for ‘Dodgey Darius’ Vibari to pull level. It was the last time they entered the D all game. Half time ended 2-1 to Brooklands with Darius again proving he should stay up the other end of the pitch.
The second half became a rout with the conditions subsiding, Brooklands hit five more through Craigh, MLH, Jeffs(!), a mystery goal scorer that Dave Mills missed, followed by Wolfy taking charge from a short Corner.
15 goals in two league fixtures, Final score 7-1.
