After a solid win the 3s were looking to build on a good start to the season. We collectively talked about the press, our distribution and most importantly how we would retain the ball and build our attacks.
Well two of these key points went out the window very quickly and Brooklands played periods of the first half on the back foot by continually going into contact or trying to force the passes. With a patched up midfield further depleted by Duds taking a stick across the shins, the "fat controller" had to ring the changes to try and gain control. After a bit of pressure Windermere got a couple of short corner and proceeded to score via the underside of the crossbar ala Geoff Hurst in 1966. The score remained 1 -0 till half time
After a bit of a heart to heart at half-time Brooklands came out and immediately equalised through our equivalent of Jerome Hertzberger, the solid Darius Varabi. Andy "there is no H" Rusbridge was covering a lot of ground in midfield and Brooklands were mounting pressure. Unfortunately we could not find a way through and Windermere had a number of great covering saves.
Unfortunately on a breakaway which resulted in a short corner and the opposition drag flicker found the top corner. Brooklands kept attacking and had a number of chances to equalise including a last minute short corner but the home keeper pulled of a worldie from a Darius drag flick Man of the match was Alex Lay for a number of saves closely followed by Andy Rusbridge A number of things to work on in training before the team play at home next week with competition for places hotting up.
