Brooklands get of jail with 2 attacks, 2 goals.

Well, the second friendly of the season took place today. The venue, Brooklands hockey club. The opposition Timperley.

I arrived at the pitch promptly to find only one player waiting. I quickly learned that we were fielding a strengthened team today as Sav was on baby sitting duties.

I pondered with the formation, asking my vice skip on his thoughts of 4321, his response " Bod you can't do that, we are only allowed to field 11 players at one time" eh?

10 minutes before push back and Timperley started to run around the cricket pitch warming up, I saw the fear in my boys faces. In responce, we performed star jumps on the spot, that should do the trick I said.

We welcomed back Ken Latham and Colin Campbell in the midfield, Colin had recently completed a marathon and it showed as he ran throughout the first half.

Brooklands started poorly, we were camped in our own half, through some brave defending by vc Simpson and excellent keeping from Dan Wilkinson we got through to half time at 0-0.

My half team speech consisted of " Ken what do you think" which worked wonders. We played a half court press and started to control the play much better.

Just as we started to get the upper hand, Nyall Simpson went to take a 16, with no one within 10 yards of him he fell over in 3 stages, eventually ending up on the floor. My initial thought was to run, there must be a sniper within the grounds. Realising that I can't actually run I went to investigate the situation, my esteem colleague Ken had already arrived at the scene.
Ken " are you faking injury because of that comedy fall"
Nyall " yes"
2 minutes later after the laughter, mr Simpson is carried off by two players. Unfortunately for us we didn't have a substitute.

Down to ten men we then started to play some great stuff, playing the ball up the right we secured our first short corner.
Up stepped Ken Latham, one shot, one save, one follow up and goal!!!!

Next Simpson decided to join us, he stood on the p spot and converted an great cross. 2-0.

We conceded a late goal through a short before sealing our first win of the season.

DOTD - Mr Simpson, he knows why......
MOM - our keeper, young Wilkinson, excellent saves that kept us in the game. Deserved a clean sheet.

Next game Ormskirk at home.
