Vs Springfields

In the late afternoon sunshine(blistering heat) Brooklands Poynton 1st XI took on a young Springfields team. The home side initially struggled to break down the opposition, partly due to them fielding 12 players in error! However as the home side settled into a better rhythm and make better connections the majority of play was in the attacking half. The deadlock was broken by an Amy Gavin penalty corner strike, neatly slotted in. The home side continued to work hard and pressure the Springs defence, winning the ball back well. This pressure lead to Annie Watton's debut Brooklands Poynton goal. A third goal was added before the half time break. Despite the scoreline the less experienced Springs team made the home side work hard for their lead and continued to do so in the second half. Brooklands Poynton responded and sharpened up their play allowing a further 2 goals to be added by Jackson and Whinnerah. As the second half continued both sides tired in the heat, leading to a more open and end to end game. The defence held firm to ensure a clean sheet despite more attacking play from the opposition. A sixth goal was added late on by Rebecca Horan, running from deep to support the attack and slotting home a pass from Baxter. The final score, 6 - 0. So with 2 more players to come into the squad the competition for a place in the team for the first league game vs Loughborough Students on 15th Sept is certainly hotting up.
