Wakefield Bradford report

This fixture has been a derby like fixture over the last couple of seasons, through both indoor and outdoor meetings. And this game did not disappoint in terms of entertainment, and result for Brooklands Poynton! The Ladies 1s were away (with the 2s playing Wakefield 2s at home), trying out Wakefield's fancy smurfturf. A little bouncy but this did not cause us anymore difficulty than the opposition. It did however contribute to us going a goal down within the first five minutes! A ball crashed in by Wakefield was deflected high into Thomas' net. The good thing about going a goal down so early is all the time you have to pull level and then go ahead, which is exactly what the Brooklands Poynton girls did. Having the tactical upper hand on Wakefield it was a case of stick to our game plan and stop theirs. With the back four performing well, and the midfield grafting to win back ball and linking well to create opportunities for the forwards it was not long before Cat Savage delivered a ball into to D for H Turner to dispatch first time passed the Wakefield keeper. Not much longer after the equaliser Watton received the ball top D turning the defender to strike and score. Once we went ahead we maintained control of the game until half time. The second half saw a little more entertainment added with a few feisty tackles from both sides, although not a dirty or scrappy game there were then 2 green cards shown, to Ashy and Soph, and a yellow for a Wakefield player. Whilst Wakefield turkey style warbled at the umpires Brooklands Poynton got on with reorganising themselves. It looked like the umpires had dug themselves a hole but credit to both sets of players the game continued to be cleanly contested without much dissent. Looking comfortable at 2-1 what looked to be the decider came with just 2 minutes to go. Ashy's ball ponked into the D by Turner with just the keeper to beat. So 3-1 up and 2minutes left, let’s just keep the ball....or lets concede pantomime style, bringing it back to 3-2, win a couple of short corners and concede one in the dying seconds (very dubiously)! After all the drama we managed not to throw away a deserved victory. There were many good performances, everyone contributing equally to the result. MOM was a joint vote for Evs & H, with DOD closely contested between Jess and Miche, with Miche just taking it. So, a pleasing win (again) and pleasing to see our Ladies 2s also come out 3-2 up against Wakefield's 2nd XI. Pretty sure those that went out that night celebrated!
