The trip to Doncaster was a scenic route for some, somewhat like the Italian hills apparently and with a high risk of snow-blindness (Photo keratitis to the more knowledgeable of us!) That said it was worth a photo! Evidently there were still some residual visual problems on the pitch. The game was targeted as another opportunity to improve on patience and quality for the us; however a rather sluggish start was the reality. Despite patience and passing round the back the home side, clearly keen to make amends for their loss the previous week, pressed well. Their efforts made it difficult to exploit the width. The less than assured start saw Donnie win the first PC, but they were unable to convert. It wasn't long before we won a PC ourselves but nor could we! Passages of disjointed and scrappy play were sadly the nature of the fixture as has been in the past. A few glimpses of slick passing did create some excellent chances but it was Donnie that took the lead on 25minutes. Some glaring misses did not help the cause to get back on level terms, but with the final hit of the first half Sarah Newman fired home from a PC strike taking us into halftime at 1-1. Again the usual half time stern words! The second half did see an improved performance all round, except the finishing in front of goal. I can't remember how many chances but it was ALOT! Some saved by excellent goal keeping but the fact that only 2 more goals were scored is certainly an area for improvement. It only took 4 minutes before the second goal was scored. This clearly helped confidence and more and more opportunities came and went until the last minute when Cat Savage drove into the D to set up Turner. On balance the win was felt to be deserved but with Beeston next weekend we'll need to step up our game and bury our chances if we want to progress to be a side contesting for top spot. We like a challenge though so game on Brooklands!
