Ben Rhydding match report

Back at the fortress, that George’s road is becoming, Brooklands Poynton welcomed Ben Rhydding. The home team knew it was going to be a tough and physical encounter but they were up for the challenge and made a good start. Despite this Brooklands failed to make many circle entries, finding flat sticks instead. After 21 minutes, a Kelly Baxter strike found the perfectly placed stick of Naomi Bennett, who deflected the ball into the net on her National League home debut to put Brooklands one nil up. The remainder of the first half saw chances for both sides but neither team found the net. With the home team making a nervy start to the second half, Ben Rhydding had a hatful of opportunities but didn’t manage to convert any of them. As the second half progressed, the home team began to play some fantastic passing hockey. In the 42nd minute, Annie Watton made a great defensive pick in the attacking 25, allowing Lindsay Rachubka, to strike from the top of the D, and bury her 5th goal of the season. From then on the home team went from strength to strength, playing some crowd pleasing hockey. Man of the match, Helen Turner, sealed the win after some silky 3D skills into the D. Her 61st minute strike hit the back of the net quicker than Laura Evans can get changed! Brooklands now hope to build on this home form, as they travel to Doncaster next Saturday. The team also have a cup game at home, on Sunday, against premiership side, Surbiton. It promises to be a great cup tie, we hope to see as many of you there as possible. 12 noon start.
