Sunday 17th November was far from a day of rest, welcoming Kendal to Georges Road to draw a close to the first half of the season.
Newly promoted Kendal haven proven their worth in the North Conference division thus far, scoring in all games and came into the fixture with a promising win against Doncaster the previous week.
Brooklands riding high in the division knew the game would be a challenge and aimed to continue to grow their performances and winning results after a fantastic start to the season.
The game from the outset was fast and fierce with both teams counter attacking and creating chances at both ends. The first half shaped up to be quite the spectacle for all the supporters (mainly blackmailed boyfriends) and Brooklands broke the deadlock on 29minutes. Amy Gavin delivered a weighted pass down the line to Lindsay Rachubka who posted high to collect, The ball then came to Charlotte Jackson who delivered a superb pass into the circle where Cat Savage was waiting to slot it past the keeper.
Half time dawned and after a few discussions Brooklands started the half much better and began to play their 2 touch Barca style hockey with fast paced transferring and interchanging. Notability, Charlotte Jackson’s man of the match performance inspired by her Friday night Gravity viewing was laced with aerial brilliance and pin point accuracy creating multiple chances in the attacking 25 from her defensive role.
Brooklands continued to build and the second goal was slotted away on the line by Lindsay Rachubka after a terrific team build up on the 46th minute. (I would elaborate more on the build-up however at this point I was concentrating on breathing.)
Kendal showed resilience with their team stamina and determination evident (albeit a few cards) however they couldn’t break down the solid Brooklands defence with Michelle ‘The Service’ Thomas leading the team to their 4th clean sheet.
Although not the polished performance we have come accustomed to, Brooklands wrapped up another 3 points and head into the second half of the season in 2nd place, 1 point behind Wakefield who are yet to visit the fortress of Georges Road.
