David Meek Celebration Service details

Further to this notification of David's passing away, there will be a celebration service for him at St Anne's church in St Anne Square, Manchester at 1.30 on the 21st November.

This week Brooklands lost one of its longest-standing and best-loved members. David Meek died in the early hours of Monday morning at his home in Milton Keynes after several weeks of illness. Meeky was a great supporter of the Club since he joined in 1959-60 after moving from his home town of York. He served in several capacities, initially as Captain of the Sunday XI (his Manchester United reporting duties preventing him from playing on Saturdays), Chairman of the Mens Hockey Section, Chairman of Brooklands Sports Club – and for many years produced the 1st Team match day programme virtually single-handedly. He was renowned for being the soft voice of reason and for his gentle diplomacy and did a great job acting as the facilitator for the merger of Poynton Ladies and Brooklands Ladies.

There will be a minute’s silence before this Sunday’s 1st Team match in memory of David. He will be greatly missed.
