
Head Coach – Brooklands MUHC
Job Description:
Brooklands Hockey Club Mens 1st Team will play in the North Conference of the E.H.L. in the 2013-14 season having played in the Premier Division last season
The 2nd Team plays in the North Hockey League.
Brooklands wants to appoint a coach up to Level 4 Standard to undertake coaching responsibilities at the Club for the coming season.
Requirements:
a) To develop a season-long plan for the 1st and 2nd Teams to achieve promotion back to the Premier Division.
b) To coach the Mens 1st Team twice weekly. This will be at the Club and/or Belle Vue.
c) To plan, organise and take coaching sessions on each occasion.
d) To select the Mens 1st Team and advise on 2nd Team selection.
e) To attend all 1st Team, home and away games, Cup and County competitions as required.
f) To organise pre- season training, fitness preparation, in-competition training and post-season debriefings.
g) To develop the team as a whole and players’ individual skills.
h) To liaise with/organise either personally or via third parties goalkeeping coaching, fitness development and game analysis.
i) To liaise with the Team Manager regarding travel/accommodation arrangements and travel with the team to away fixtures.
j) To represent the Club with outside bodies and organisations and develop and uphold the reputation of the Club.
In addition:
a) To appoint/ work with a 2nd Team coach and have over-arching responsibility for both teams in terms of selection. Ideally the Club would prefer the 1st Team coach to cover both teams in terms of coaching/selection.
b) To attend Club meetings as required by the Club Committee.
c) To provide coaching support/assistance and developmental help to the Club’s Youth System as requested and subject to the above primary responsibilities.
d) To develop coaching within the Club and coaching links to schools and HA coaching system. This may involve additional remuneration subject to grant aid etc.
e) To plan, organise, coach and attend the Indoor Hockey team that competes in the Div 1 Indoor Hockey league in the December/ January period.
Salary:
a) Salary is negotiable for the period June until end March.
b) The Club will pay travelling expenses to games/ training.
c) The Coach is expected to utilise team transport/minibus etc where possible to minimise costs.
d) Any other employment should not interfere with the above functions/requirements.
e) The Coach will be line-managed by the Club Chair or such other person nominated by the Club.
Manchester University:
a) The Club is linked to Manchester University and is required to provide one Head Coach and two Assistant Coaches to develop the University.
b) Although desirable that the 1st Team Coach is also the University Head Coach, the Club will consider splitting the roles should University commitments clash with other full-time employment commitments.
c) The job requires attendance at The Firs or such other venue on Monday evenings to Coach the 1st Team in BUSA and supervise coaching of the lower teams.
d) The job requires attendance on Wednesdays daytime for home/ away BUSA Premier League/ Cup/ Play off Games in the Autumn/ Spring terms.
e) There is an additional salary over and above the Club salary currently for the head coach.
f) Coach development within the University itself is part of the role.
g) The coach will be responsible to the Sports Development office of MU/Brooklands in respect of these duties and will attend meetings as required to report on them.
