Peter Simpson has passed away after a long illness.

Peter Simpson has passed away after a long illness. Peter has been a member of the Hockey Section since 1972 and played most of his hockey in lower sides and for many years used an old ‘English Head’ stick!
He was an active social member organising many events at the Club including ‘Gentlemen’s evenings’ many years ago.
He was appointed as a Vice President for his all-round contribution to the Sports Club and in particular his membership of the Club Committee and subsequently the Board, of which he was Chairman and President. Peter built a reputation as a fair minded and selfless individual who could be completely trusted to help others and support the Club and Section in any way he could.
He contributed time, effort and was also generous in his contributions to fund raising. It was typical of him to make a financial donation to the Hockey Section days before his death.
He also contributed a son, Nyall, to the hockey section who enjoyed many years following in his father’s footsteps.
A keen runner in younger days as well as a player, Peter’s athletic endeavours ended with a serious leg injury in the mid-nineties incurred whilst playing at the Club one Saturday which, required hospitalisation and a number of operations. Not one to end his association with the Club he took up umpiring, only retiring a couple of years ago due to deteriorating health.
Peter became a founder member of the ‘Balcony Club’, a bunch of old boys who watched Cricket on Saturdays quaffing wine replete on occasions with pith helmets!
He will be missed very much, as an important contributor to the health of the Club and Section, and as a friend to so many.
Details of his funeral will follow.
