Brooklands junior boys were fabulously represented this weekend (25/26/27 June) at the Under 13 National Championships played at Beeston Hockey Club, Nottingham. A grand total of 11 Brooklands boys were picked to represent the three Tensworth (North West) 2021 teams.
• Noah Lakin-Hall
• John Andrews
• Ali Coombe
• Oli Gartside
• Oliver Bodey
• Pearse Cunningham
• Eden Liew
• Josh Baxendell
• Will Binns
• Josh Barlow
• Dylan Massart
Games took place over Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday with the Tensworth A team winning the Champions trophy!
Brooklands boys included in this winning team were.
• Noah Lakin-Hall
• John Andrews
• Josh Baxendell
• Josh Barlow
Sadly, Ali Coombe had to withdraw at the last minute, following a cricketing injury, to be ably replaced by John Andrews.
En-route to the final the Brooklands lads propelled Tensworth A to group victories against; Saxons & Ulster Tigers only dropping points in a thrilling 4-4 draw against West Panthers. A semi-final victory early Sunday morning against North East set up a final against BAHA (British Asian Hockey Association).
Despite going 1 down, Tensworth A fought back superbly to lead 2 – 1 at the break. A heart stopping moment when a very dubious flick was awarded against Tensworth, only for super-hero Brooklands keeper Josh Barlow to save and preserve the lead. Final score was 4 - 2. A truly wonderful match with a well-deserved result.
The Tensworth B & C teams played in the U13’s boys Regional trophy which was eventually won by Mid-Bees. Some tremendous performances in these games, especially the first game on the Friday that pitched the B and C teams against each other. The B team managed to win 2, drew 1 & lost 1. The C team, which mainly comprised of the younger, less experienced players had a tough time only managing 1 draw, but completed tremendously against much stronger (and larger) opponents. A bright hockey future beckons for those lads.
To crown the weekend off in spectacular fashion, 4 of the Brooklands boys were selected (from all the players present, from all the teams) to represent the UK Lions international touring squad. Huge congratulations to Noah, John, Ali and Josh Barlow. Thoroughly well deserved.
An amazing weekend for all involved despite it being hard work for the parents in the supporting and socialising departments…
