The club desperately needs more players to help umpire adult games this coming season. We are going to need to fill around 12 Umpiring slots each Saturday. Even if you can only umpire one game a season we would still like to hear from you.

To umpire league matches you will need to be a level 1 assessed umpire. If you aren’t already qualified, the club is looking at the feasibility of running of course over the coming months. If we can get 10 new umpires qualified this will massively help Brooklands over the coming seasons.

If you don’t want to jump straight into the course, there will be opportunities to get some practice in – with our excellent team of umpire coaches and mentors. We also have two umpire accessors for after you have done the course.

One of the best ways for parents to support the club and get involved with your child’s hockey is to umpire their games. You don’t need any formal qualifications for most junior games. The club has a group of highly qualified umpires and umpire coaches who would be able to support you. Parent umpires can develop their skills, as they follow their children through the different age groups.

Also, we would like to encourage any juniors who want to start umpiring. It is a great way to improve their awareness of the game. They can start by umpiring younger age groups, and then as they develop, they can move up through ages to higher levels if they want. There are also opportunities for junior umpires to get paid.
