Brooklands took the long trip down to Holcombe in the hunt for more points away from home. Paul Gannon had made a few changes to the side with the return of some familiar faces in Dan Vincent and Pete Cornell. They were both ready to stamp their authority in this weekends game.
The 1st half started in a frantic manor with both sides having similar amounts of ball, arguably the Manchester side were more dominant in this period of play creating more chances than the home side. Brooklands had the perfect opportunity to take the lead after a defender broke the line early on a short corner. This meant the next play had to be defended with only 3 men. Unfortunately the injection wasn't quite in the correct place and the chance was quashed. From this Holcombe went on the attack and forced a corner which was exceptionally generous from the official. A neat low flick beat the Brooklands keeper Chris Scott, who had very little to do up until this point.
The middle of the pitch was where Brooklands had dominated however it was in both D's that Holcombe took control. They quashed most attacks Brooklands had with the best chance of the half falling to Aidan Khares whose back hand flew past the post.
The lads had another set back when a smart finish from a Holcombe midfielder, looped over the keeper and nestled into the net from a very tight angle. Brooklands went into the break 2-0 down.
The second half started with brooklands looking to dominate and stamp their authority on the game. Lots of possession in key areas allowed the Georges road side to explore different avenues but Holcombes steely defence was ever present, that plus some loose attacking mean't Brooklands were extremely frustrated.
Two notable chances came from penalty corners, the first was a well worked corner that was deflected high and just over the bar. The second, a straight flick clipping the outside of the post. This could have been the Brooklands men on level terms and fighting for points, however it wasn't to be.
One final break away goal meant the game was put out of arms reach for the travelling team. A wonderful reverse stick strike that flew in the top corner from a tight angle showed the difference in the two sides.
Spirits are still high in the Brooklands camp as they look to add to their currents points tally. The lads are already looking forward to next weeks game.
