Another week, and another big game for Mulford’s men. Given a boost by the news we had a week without Steve Murray’s terrible chat we went into the game confident. The extended warm up didn’t please self appointed vice captain Prentice (who was surprised not to be given the armband in the absence of Trigger). A cagey first half consisted of JvB failing to keep the ball out of his net as usual, as well as Poots equalising after some good work down the right hand side.
Playing our game and keeping our discipline was the message at half time. There were signs of improvement from the start of the second half with the midfield of JC, AG, Prentice and Johnson starting to take control. After a scrappy short corner the ball landed at the stick of South African import Kev to stick it home which led to a flurry of goals for Brooky. A well worked team goal including Prentice making a 50 yard bursting run into the D before pulling it back for Dr Watton to finally get his first goal of the season after over 400 minutes of waiting, which was quickly followed by his second from a short corner. Poots then grabbed his second and our fifth before Wakefield got a late consolation. Usual strong performances all over the park including stand in captain Vincent, Trigger who? The lads maintain their 100% start to the season and look forward to the visit of Formby next weekend.
