Sadly the 16 miscreants who played on Saturday have worn their pencils out writing their 100 lines of "I must remember to play for the FULL 70 minutes" so the report has been written by the intelligent half of the management team
We kicked off the season with a much changed team and welcomed Dan Campbell, Henry Pymm, Stuart Nickerson, Hamish McKittrick and Sam Lloyd for their League debuts for the club.A
Both teams started quite tentatively feeling each other out with Chester starting particularly cautiously. The 1st half was fairly uneventful with Brooklands having some corners and half chances but neither side landing any meaningful blows.
At half time Coach Mulford stressed patience and for the team to stick to the plan. Brooklands general play improved as the match went on, players grew into the game and we started to find good connections throughout the team. The Ball pace went up a gear and we were able to inject greater intensity and tempo. Chester started to show cracks – penalty corners came a plenty but we were not able to convert and we need to get more clinical moving forwards.
Chances were being created and a great move from back to front resulted in JC leaving the keeper stranded but just missing the target. The goal then arrived with another well worked move and this time Simpo was able to get on the end of it.
Other chances came to finish off Chester but we couldn’t quite manager the killer 2nd goal to make if more comfortable. In the last seconds Chester pushed hard and found a man back post for a tap in to finish the game off at 1-1.
Overall the lads were disappointed with the result but felt the performance was good and lots to work on in training on Thursday.
