It was a damp and miserable day as Brooklands 3s faced Brooklands 2s at home in this David Vs Goliath story. The 3s would be without their influential midfielder, Danny Sopp as he was on his way to Scotland in a last minute twist. The game started fairly evenly with the 3s even winning the first short corner. However, the 2s showed their class and managed to up the ante, scoring around the 20 minute mark. Some dogged defending from full back Josh Appleton kept the game down to a one goal lead with him taking one for the team on the kneecap, then brilliantly saving as the ball was heading into the top corner. The 2s managed to bag one more around 10 minutes from half time as the 3s held out to keep it to 2-0 going into half time. The second half started fairly evenly again before a spate of goals from the 2s took them into a 6-0 lead. Veteran striker Brad King managed to pull back a late consolation from a short corner before the 2s extended their lead, scoring the final goal of the game. The industrious third team will feel aggrieved that the score did not reflect their performance, however, there were plenty of positives to take into next week. Final score Brooklands 3s 1 - 7 Brooklands 2s.
