King Kenny double thwarts Keele

A trip to Brooklands 2nd home saw the mighty 6s take on the craven youth that is Keele Univ, who arrived late (no surprise), hungover (again no surprise) & in multi-coloured playing shirts that made Harlequins RFC look positively bland (big surprise)!

Kapitan Ken warmly welcomed debutants Alex & Ronan to the team, gave his usual uplifting team talk about the 5s being spanked, "so don't take this team lightly", discipline, no taxis & no comedy moments. KK won the toss & we changed ends which we thought was a spiffing idea as the sun (yes the sun!) was now on its way Westwards & would obviously be to our advantage in the 2nd half - Wrong!

The game ebbed & flowed in the 1st half & chances came at both ends, but midway thru the half a PC won by Stonecold, was then properly dispatched by KK & the 1st half ended 1-0 up. The team talk was more of the same & with a more experienced side than usual (i.e older gits), we were confident that the 2nd goal would deliver a reality check to the students. We pay their taxes after all!!

& so it came to pass that another PC was won & almost inevitably slotted home by the skipper. But now, having sobered up & using that part of their anatomy that they go to Uni for, the students changed strategy, swamped midfield , threw more forward & were rewarded with 2 goals (the 2nd being a career tomahawk for their CF), while the 6s needed their Raybans as passes went on too many occasions to shadows (pls can we play on a pitch that goes north to south!).

During this phase, 2 6s were standing on the sideline for card offences (allegedly) & one player asked the other player "I know what I've been carded for, what about you?" To which the other replied "I don't know, kicking the ball maybe? Umpire why have I been carded?" to which the umpire replied "I haven't carded you, are you just having a rest??!"

Several more chances came the way of both sides, but the game finished 2-2 & on reflection a fair result. A good all-round team performance for the 6s to build on for next week's match in deepest, darkest Salop.

Our comedy moment for this week goes to Flyboy Branson for the card dialogue. There were no taxis this week.
