Birmingham Uni Triangular

The first ladies fixture of the season saw a run out for a team of 13 with the bank holiday weekend causing several 1st and 2nd team players to be unavailble. This certainly allowed for the cobwebs to blown out and some work on match fitness to done, especially as the rain stayed away and the sun shone! With the summer so far seeing an excellent turn out for training and plenty of new faces the coming season for both 1st and 2nd XI squads bodes well. Plenty of competition for places this year and todays fixtures saw some promise. The first game vs Birmingham Uni was a 2-2 draw. The game started slowly, but Brooklands Poynton started to use their fresher legs to string together some good passages of play. A good start to build from. The second game vs Olton saw a much quicker tempo and higher quality game. Olton being the sharper to disposess any dwelling on the ball. Although Olton struck 3 times to no reply Brooklands Poynton certainly again showed their ability to defend in numbers and create going forward. Just the cutting edge in the final quarter required. Everyone who played worked hard throughout the games and am sure Bank holiday monday will see a few aching bodies - welcome back to hockey!!
