Slow start

So far since the season's restart it has seen two wins from two games, all be it to teams sitting below Brooklands Poynton in the table. This week was certain to be quite a different challenge, with Beeston as visitors. They currently sit top of the league, looking good for the promotion play off place. The day's aim was to perform better than previous fixtures against this opposition and keep the game a close affair. A little lighter in squad numbers, due to injury and unavailability, it was set to be a tiring affair. The two early goals on 6 and 10 minutes didn't quite set us up for the close game we were aiming for! The speed and numbers of the Beeston players as they pounced upon a couple of costly turnovers within our own half could potentially have implied a rout. To the credit of the team though Brooklands Poynton did not crumbled and fought back with some fleeting attacks themselves. Denied a penalty stroke midway through the half a corner was awarded instead, but to no avail. Another corner came and went; this time deflected the wrong side of the post. Despite our efforts going forward Brooklands were once again caught out and a third went in on 27minutes. Finally, on 32minutes and early ball allowed Brooklands to get in behind the Beeston defence and the overload ensured no missing this time! 3-1 at half time. The second half was very much an improved performance from the home side, although a 4th was scrambled in from a corner shortly after the restart the focus was improved and structurally Beeston were kept at bay. A few fantastic saves from evergreen Thomas certainly kept us in with a fighting chance! With the game looking safe for the visitors home pride saw Brooklands Poynton work hard until the final whistle. On balance the performance was an improvement on previous meetings, although the result still reflecting the gap the team needs to reel in in order to compete for top spot in future. Next week will no doubt we a tough game against Wakefield Bradford, this is a 12noon push back at home.
