CREWE VAGRANTS -V- BROOKLANDS LADIES 3S
The Duckies headed South down the M6 battling through storm Desmond to play Crewe Vagrants hoping for a much needed (and deserved!) win.
Despite having the majority of the possession, and putting great pressure on the Crewe defence and goal, the Ducks were unable to put in that much needed goal. The Vagrants took advantage of a quick break down the pitch and edged home a "sneaky" goal to go 1 nil up.
The ducks kept their heads up (despite battling against the wind in the first half), and continued to dominate with some great play, passing and pressure on Crewe. Despite all the pressure, at half time the score remained 1 nil to Crewe.
Pam rallied the ducks (trying to beard above the winds!) and they returned to the pitch with the wind in their favour hoping to get the equaliser. It was a repeat performance of the first half with some great pressure, passing and play by the team but that goal continued to elude them. The Vagrants were awarded a short corner and managed to go
2 nil up despite some great defending.
Despite being 2 nil down, and continuing to play in the most awful conditions, the team never let their heads go down and they battled on until the final whistle in the hoping of getting one past the Vagrants.
Those goals didn't materialise for the ducks and the game ended 2 nil to the Vagrants.
The scoreline most definitely did not reflect the game! The ducks played some impressive hockey, with great passing, pressure and great team work. They worked tirelessly to the final whistle and were really unfortunate not to get a draw (and to win!) today. Winning ways will return and as Pam said post match "what an awesome game you all had..."and "that goal machine will happen"...
Dick of the day - I daren't even type this...Pam....for her spectacular fall, asking "where's my hockey bag" when on her back...amongst other nominations...
I have to say there should have been "slip/fallof the day" award as most of the team seemed to have some difficulties staying upright on a super slippy pitch and in the winds!
Oppos ( and our)Man of the Match - Alicia Goodridge - great match and some fantastic saves!
I'm sorry for the shortness of the report but the match reporter was on important dog minding duties (Raven - the beautiful greyhound)...
Have a good week everyone....next week's match is at home (the last before the Christmas break) against Oswestry...before the Xmas Meal at Vao for those who are able to make it.
