A much needed secured 1 point bagged!!!!

The Mighty Ducks and their supporters headed from sunny Sale across to not so sunny Macclesfield….a cloudy, breezy and very cold Macclesfield in fact!

It was an important match for the Ducks with not many games left to the end of season and the Ducks anxious to ensure they stayed above the relegation zone.

The Ducks showed their determination to win this game with a fantastic start with great pressure on the Macclesfield defence with great passing and teamwork from the Ducks mid-field. Maz was the first casualty of the match and came off to ice her knee and the subs rolled on and off. Macclesfield responded to the pressure exerting some pressure themselves on the Ducks goal but some great defending kept any goal at bay. Macclesfield were awarded a quick short corner which was well defended and cleared by Emilie and Sophie.

Some great play and passing by Lottie, Ellie and Emilie in mid-field resumed the pressure on the Macclesfield defence. The whole team showed how much they were up for this match with some great play and awesome passing; real team work. Macclesfield responded and were able to break through quickly with one of their players in particular able to cover ground at some speed down the wing! They had a shot on goal but it was well covered by Alicia in goal and the ball “glided” wide of the net. Macclesfield kept the pressure on the Ducks defence with another shot which hit the post and then cleared. It was real end to end stuff.

The Ducks got a short but were unable to capitalise on it. The hardy supporters roared the Ducks on willing them to score.

The subs were rolled on and off by Izzy’s mum Jane, and the pace of the match continued at full throttle! A bit of frustration was being felt on and off the pitch as the Ducks were unable to get that goal despite all the pressure and two consecutive short corners and the whistle blew for half time with the score line goal less despite shots on goal by both teams.

Macclesfield came out strong in the second half and had a quick break and shot on goal which went in and Macclesfield were 1 nil up. Not the start the Ducks wanted to the second half. The Ducks were quick to respond and retaliated with a break of their own with Izzy hitting the ball squarely into the D, with Cat able to strike it straight into the net….in a matter of minutes the score line was 1 – 1….

One goal was not enough for the Ducks who wanted the win and kept the pressure on with a great ball through by Lottie resulting in Brooklands being rewarded by another short corner. Three successive shorts didn’t result in a goal for the Ducks despite great attempts, being thwarted by some great saves by the Macclesfield goalie….not 3rd time lucky for the Ducks.

The pressure continued and Brooklands got yet another short corner with Maz being unlucky not to get the Ducks second goal. The relentless pressure finally paid off with a well taken goal by Keelin….Brooklands got 2 – 1 up…!

The tension was being felt by the supporters and on the pitch as the Ducks fought on to secure the win with a third goal, while trying to keep Macclesfield at bay and to prevent them breaking through our midfield. At this point, the match reporter was so focussed and excited by the match, she forgot to note down all salient points!! – whoops – sorry folks but suffice to say it was real end to end stuff with the fans getting more and more excitable.

Yet another Ducks attack was stopped by Macclesfield who broke quickly through the midfield and outwitted the defence to get an equaliser. 2 – 2.

Pam roared the Ducks on and the team went up another gear to get that third goal and win. The fans anxiously looked at their watches knowing that there were only minutes left. The Ducks were awarded a short but Lottie with a great flick was so unlucky not to get a goal. Maz was determined to match her sister and get a goal but was thwarted in her attempts. There was some awesome passing and pressure on the Macclesfield goal and the clock counted down. The Ducks were awarded a short corner but again the goal eluded the team…another short was awarded immediately with Dennis the umpire blowing the final whistle to indicate that it would be the final play of the match…the crowd held their breath hoping the win would be the Ducks…but it wasn’t to be….the ball just wouldn’t get in that goal and the match was over.

Disappointment that we’d not been able to hold on to the 2 – 1 win but Pam and all the team happy to take away a draw from a well-played and fought match! Both teams had gone full out to win this one. It was a fantastic match to watch, great passing and pressure, amazing team work with the Ducks working together and fighting for that win until the final whistle. An absolute quacker to watch (sorry I couldn’t resist  )

Well played to all the team! Next week an important match with Golborne….a must win for the Team but one the Ducks know they can win.

Opposition MOM – Lottie Kielty (well deserved Lottie)

MOM – Keelin – for a great goal and her enthusiasm on and off the pitch!
